How to rewind ageing skin for a firmer, wrinkle-free complexion

rewind ageing skin

Every time we laugh, cry and smile, our skin loses its firmness and wrinkles can begin to appear around our eyes, forehead and cheeks. Robyn Hutch, Nivea Skincare Expert shares her tips you can start right now to rewind ageing skin and get a firmer, smoother and radiant looking complexion.

As the years pass, sun exposure causes age spots and overall our skin begins to lose its natural moisture. While we can’t control these signs of ageing completely, there are simple, everyday ways to help keep our skin looking and feeling its best.  Here are my top five quick and easy tips on how to rewind the clock on your skin for a firmer, wrinkle-free complexion.

How to rewind ageing skin:

Tip 1: Don’t wait until you can see the signs

Many may think that they only need to start caring for their skin when there are visible signs of ageing such as fine lines and wrinkles, but in fact, you should be caring for your skin as soon as possible. Whether it’s ensuring you drink enough water, moisturising daily or taking care of your eyes as they are the first area to start visibly ageing – the sooner you start looking after your skin, the sooner it will begin to glow with health.

Tip 2:  Develop a simple but effective skincare routine

A simple skincare routine is a great starting place to keep your skin hydrated, cleansed from dirt and bacteria, and soothed when you go to bed. But the key to a good anti-ageing routine is to support your skin through its changes by staying consistent and using effective products. Whether it’s your day cream or eye cream in the morning, or a richer night cream before you go to bed, each product you choose should be packed full of ingredients like Hyaluronic Acid and Q10 to nourish skin and support skin cell structure. For an extra boost, I recommend the NIVEA Hyaluron Cellular Filler Ampoules as an ideal simple addition to your skincare routine. Applying a pea-sized amount of the light formula, which has the highest concentration of hyaluronic acid in the NIVEA range morning and night allows your skin to look and feel firmer, filling in wrinkles for a plump complexion.

Tip 3: Stay out of the sun to avoid causing further damage

Keeping out of the sun doesn’t necessarily mean avoiding sunlight at all costs but instead being more mindful of the damage that the sun can cause. The Australian sun is incredibly harsh, so my best advice is to always wear sunscreen before leaving the house to help prevent premature ageing. Remember to reapply at least every two hours and stay out of direct sun especially during the hottest parts of the day. For best results, I suggest using a high-quality sunscreen such as the NIVEA SUN UV Face Shine Control with SPF 50 – you’ll be protected from harsh UV rays and it also has a 0% sticky feeling.

Tip 4: Ensure your body is getting the well-deserved rest it needs

Getting at least 8 hours of sleep is key in preventing fine lines and wrinkles. By getting a good night’s sleep, you allow your skin to rejuvenate and rest from the busy day. While we sleep, our cells regenerate faster than when we are awake and our whole body rests. This is because the hormones that control our metabolism redistribute themselves and this is very important for our skin. Our body only produces the sleep hormone melatonin at night. It not only ensures you sleep healthily: its anti-oxidative effect rectifies skin damage and has a positive influence on the cells’ ageing process.

Tip 5: Be gentle when applying products

One tip I find is important to keep in mind is to always be gentle on your skin. Your skin is very sensitive and should be treated with care. Any time you are in contact with your skin you should always be applying or removing any products slowly and softly to avoid pulling on or stretching the skin. Cleanse by using small circular motions and when applying moisturiser patting rather than rubbing in products can help avoid developing fine lines and wrinkles.

There are many more ways to decrease the signs of aging and reduce fine lines and wrinkles, finding what is right for you is the key. Always remember to stick to your skincare routine and do what is best for your skin type. In time, fine lines and wrinkles will start to become less visible, making you feel good in your skin no matter what your age is.
