Tips to Developing a Fire Escape Plan

With winter here, the risk of fire with the use of heaters and electric blankets is more probable and home owners are being reminded to take simple steps to ensure their family’s safety and develop a fire escape plan.

Queensland’s Minister for Fire and Emergency Services Jack Dempsey said winter was a busy time for firefighters and one fatality is one too many. His advice to Queenslanders is noteworthy for every Australian.

“A fire escape plan can save lives so if a fire alarm does sound a family can react quickly and safely,” he said.

“A vital step is to decide a meeting place for you and your family in case of an emergency.

“It’s important to practise that fire escape plan together to ensure everyone knows what to do and where to go during a fire.

“Safety is everyone’s responsibility.”
