It’s nearly September – time to host your own Big Aussie Barbie, the barbie that ignites a nation and does something positive for men’s health by raising awareness of Prostate Cancer.
More than 120,000 men in Australia are living with prostate cancer and 20,000 more are diagnosed annually. Every year, 3300 of those men don’t survive.
Last year, The Retiree feature an article with Prostate Cancer Foundation Australia CEO Dr Anthony Lowe on the importance of prostate cancer research and the success programs such as the Big Aussie Barbie are having on raising awareness. Ambassador Matthew Hayden shared the story of his father who was unfortunately one of those 20,000 men diagnosed with prostate cancer.
Now in its fifth year, the Big Aussie Barbie has grown in strength and last year alone there were more than 850 barbies registered, raising more than n $1 million for prostate cancer research, awareness and support programs.
In 2014 the Big Aussie Barbie has the same $1 million target, and its easy to get involved.
