Founded in 1959, Animal Welfare League Queensland (AWLQ) is committed to creating lasting changes for animals in our society through cutting edge initiatives including Community Vet Clinics, Golden Hearts™ Seniors’ Pet Support Program and the National Desexing Network.

AWLQ has grown to become one of the largest animal welfare organisations in Australia and cares for more than 10,000 abandoned and homeless animals every year – providing them somewhere safe and warm to stay.

Working closely with councils and the community, and through innovative rehoming strategies, AWLQ has been able to improve the outcomes for abandoned and homeless animals. In the past twelve months AWLQ has reunited 3791 lost animals with their families and rehomed 6115 animals, providing them a second chance at life in a loving home.

AWLQ promises to never euthanise a healthy, sociable or treatable animal in our care – as a result we have one of the lowest euthanasia rates of any large animal shelter in Australia.

Our Golden Hearts^TM Seniors Pet Support Program provides support to aged people and provides them comfort and peace of mind that their pets will always be cared for. Your lasting legacy will ensure seniors receive the support they need to enjoy the many benefits of animal companionship.

Now in its 15^th year of operation, our National Desexing Network works with the community to desex more than 23,000 animals every year. Your lasting legacy will prevent unwanted litters of kittens and puppies, and ultimately pain and suffering for thousands of unwanted animals.
