Charitable donations at tax time can make a real difference to Australian families in need, say Louise Baxter, Starlight CEO.
Our mission at Starlight is simple – we bring happiness to seriously ill children and young people across Australia.
As the end of financial year approaches, we’re appealing to the public to make a tax-deductible donation before June 30 as the need for our children’s hospital services (Captain Starlight and the Starlight Express Rooms) has never been greater.

With less than a week to go, we are just $160,000 away from reaching our goal of $1.6 million, and we are urging the community to dig deep to keep these services running daily.
Visits to our Starlight Express Rooms by seriously ill children and their families have risen by 26% nationally over the past two years and we now have more than 15,000 sick kids accessing these rooms every month.
Starlight supports thousands of families including siblings Harry and Sammi, pictured, who both suffer from a rare condition, Stickler Syndrome, which causes chronic pain, hearing loss and fatigue. The condition has seen them go through countless emergency room visits and specialist appointments and during those stressful times, Starlight gives Harry, Sammi and their mum Elissa a chance to take a break from their treatment in a fun, non-medical environment within the hospital.
If you’ve ever considered donating to Starlight before, now is the perfect time as you may be able to claim a tax deduction when you submit your tax return. You can use the tax calculator tool on the Starlight website to estimate the potential tax benefit of any donations made.
Starlight is committed to not only improving the lives of sick kids and their families but improving the impact and community value of our hospital and community services. As little as $39 will give one child access to Starlight’s hospital services, and for every donated dollar we invest in these services, we return $5.70 in value to the community.
