Retirement living for all ages and stages of life

Stockland – one of Australia’s largest retirement living operators with 65 villages nationally – is busting the myths associated with retirement living and proving that it can be suitable for retirees of all ages.

Stockland is committed to offering retirement living options that reflect the changing needs of all Australians.

Its 25 villages across Victoria offer a wide range of home types from three bedroom homes with double garages to serviced apartments.

Andrew McLynskey, Stockland Victoria Regional Sales Manager, said people often confused retirement living with aged care however the two were very different.
“Stockland retirement villages are vibrant communities where like-minded retirees can live independently,” he said.

“We find our communities appeal to retirees looking for a secure, low-maintenance home, a community atmosphere, financial peace of mind, and the ability to come and go as they wish.

“Our villages are home to thousands of residents with some as young as their mid- 50s, while we also have residents over 100-years-old who call our communities home.”
Mr McLynskey said retirement villages gave residents more time to do the things they love.

“It is common for our residents to have more friends and a busier social life once they move into a retirement village,” he said.

“There are a range of activities and village features for our residents to enjoy, many of which come as a surprise, including hair and beauty salons, indoor heated swimming pools, bowling greens, fully-equipped gyms, health centres, libraries, games rooms with billiards tables, and theatrettes.
“At the same time, our residents can partake in as little or as many of the activities and social events as they like. It’s life at your own speed.”

While the physical and social needs of older Australians has changed over generations, Mr McLynskey said retirement living had evolved to cater for people at all stages of later life.

“Australians are healthier, more active and living longer than ever before,” he said.
“Our secure, low-maintenance retirement villages allow residents to live independently in their own home for as long as possible. They are designed with generous proportions, increased functionality, and provisions for modifications to be suitable for residents regardless of age or physical ability.

“Residents have their own privacy but help is never far away with a neighbour or village staff member nearby.”

Many Stockland residents admit they wish they’d moved into a retirement village years earlier, says Mr McLynskey.

“We encourage retirees and their families who are considering retirement living to come and experience it for themselves.

“There is a lot to consider when making any move. We find that coming to visit and meet the community who live and work in our villages makes the decision much easier for retirees.”
