Keen to see Rottnest Island’s unique landscapes, wildlife, historic attractions and geological sites? Why not lace up your hiking boots and set off on some of the self-guided Wadjemup Bidi walking trails to explore the island at your own pace?
Wadjemup Bidi consists of 42.6 kilometres of walk trails that take you across spectacular coastal headlands, past stunning inland lakes and includes both natural and man-made attractions along the way.
“Bidi” in Noongar means “trail” or “track”. The Whadjuk Noongar are the Traditional Owners of Rottnest Island.
The five sections include:
- Ngank Yira Bidi – Visit Bickley Battery, 9.4km/ one way approx. 3-4hrs
- Gabbi Karniny Bidi – Discover the Salt Lakes, 9.7km/ loop approx. 3-4hrs
- Wardan Nara Bidi – Relax on Salmon Bay, 10km/ one way approx. 3-4hrs
- Karlinyah Bidi – Experience the Northern Beaches, 5.9km/ one way approx. 2-3hrs
- Ngank Wen Bidi – Explore West End, 7.6km/ loop approx. 3-4hrs
Some of the trail features include:
- Beach access at Narrow Neck, Catherine Bay, Little Armstrong and Armstrong Point, Henrietta Rocks, Porpoise Bay, Little Parakeet Bay, Fairbridge Bluff and ramped access to Ricey Beach.
- 110m boardwalk along the edge of Lake Vincent.
- Cathedral Rocks Seal Viewing platform.
- West End Boardwalk.
- Aboriginal heritage experience by way of storytelling audio boxes and interpretive artwork.
WEAR Long trousers, comfortable walking shoes, sun glasses and a hat.
TAKE Water, sunscreen, insect repellent, phone and/or camera and snacks.
OPTIONAL Why not take your bathers and towel just in case you’d like to take a refreshing dip in one of the bays along the way?
