Can you prepare for menopause?

Yes. You can. It’s something that you can’t stave off, menopause comes as a natural part of life. Yet, for some reason, it still seems as though it’s shrouded in mystery. When you don’t know what to expect it’s difficult to prepare. So, the first step in preparing is to know the symptoms.

 

Peri-menopause is the earliest stage of menopause. This is when all kinds of changes occur. Symptoms typically start between the ages of 45 and 55, though 52 is the average age. They can last anywhere from two to five years. You will experience hot flushes and night sweats, mood swings, and irregular periods. During this time you will want to dress in clothing made from natural fibres and layer yourself. You can strip down as you experience hot flushes and layer back up later. Night sweats are essentially hot flushes, but they come while you’re trying to sleep. Be prepared with a fan nearby and a window to open.

 

Sleep becomes a challenge for women going through menopause, so a sleep routine can be helpful. If you share a bed, then you may want to have an alternative sleeping arrangement for when those night sweats creep up on you. It’s better for both of you.

 

Irregular periods are also normal. It can be a struggle to predict when it will appear and it will often do so when you least expect it so, you should always be prepared for a period to pop up. You can keep pantyliners on hand or wear a slim one daily. Another issue to deal with is bladder weakness. This is where a daily pantyliner can come in handy. It can help you protect against accidents.

 

You may feel miserable and overwhelmed, don’t be afraid to talk to your friends about what you’re going through. Don’t try to ignore your changing body either, embrace it!
