With temperatures set to soar this summer, it’s exceedingly important that you look after yourself. Heat can kill when you don’t take the steps to keep cool. When temperatures hit over 26° C it starts to impact your memory and cognitive function. Imagine how dangerous that could be when temperatures reach 40° C? With that in mind, we have put together five of the best ways for you to stay cool this summer.

Hydration

You don’t need to be thirsty to drink, in fact, if you wait until you’re thirsty you are already reaching dehydration. So, drink cool water regularly. As refreshing as an ice cold bottle of water can be, it’s not doing the same job as a cool bottle will. You can get phone apps that will remind you to drink water regularly and allow you to track your intake, too.

Cool Foods

If you choose the right types of food, you can stay cool. Those foods tend to be high in water. So, choose fruits, vegetables, and salads. Fresh, raw food is a great way to stay cool. As delicious as meat might be, it’s best to avoid it during the hottest parts of the day. Eat smaller meals regularly.

Early Rise

If you have errands to run and need to spend time outdoors, then your best bet is to get out and about before the hottest parts of the day.

Stay Wet

If you stop sweating, then it’s time to worry. This is one of the first signs of heat exhaustion. The most important thing to do is get yourself into the shade and sip on cool water.

Dress Right

Light colours will reflect the sun, even if it’s your shoes. Linens and 100% cotton clothing is going to be more breathable than polyester blends. Think about the clothes that you wear.
