Dick Van Dyke Turns 90, Celebrates With Surprise Flash Mob

On Sunday Hollywood veteran Dick Van Dyke celebrated his 90th birthday – and perhaps not in a way you would expect a 90-year-old to celebrate.

The famously nice celebrity kicked off his 100th decade in Los Angeles with a flash mob performance and singalong, Fox13 reported.

Van Dyke sang and clapped a group dressed as chimney sweeps performed a choreographed dance to Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious, just as his character Bert did in Mary Poppins.

He joined the group, which was organised by his wife Arlene Silver, to sing Let’s Go Fly a Kite. Check out the video of the event at the bottom of this article.

Van Dyke said his birthday this year really snuck up on him:“It’s such a surprise. I remember at 80 I said this is acceptable, this is just fine. I didn’t know it was a very slippery slope after that”.

Back in November, Van Dyke spoke with CNN iReport about his secrets to staying young.

“Don’t do anything that isn’t fun,” Van Dyke said

“I may have reached that point in life where I don’t have to do anything that isn’t fun.”

He also said that lots of exercise and movement keep him going.

The actor starred in the eponymous “Dick Van Dyke Show” alongside Mary Tyler Moore in the early 1960s. He led the long-running program “Diagnosis Murder” in the 1990s. In between, Van Dyke starred in other iterations of the “Dick Van Dyke Show,” many TV programs and 1964’s beloved “Mary Poppins” movie.
