Sydney After-Dinner Christmas Walk Returns

Sydney’s seniors are invited to experience the best of Christmas in the city with a free after-dark, guided walking tour.

The City of Sydney supported event is the latest in a series of After Dinner Walking events showcasing Sydney as a great place for older residents to explore on foot.

The group will take in colorful installations at Town Hall, Martin Place, Pitt Street Mall, St Mary’s Cathedral and Hyde Park.

Lord Mayor Clover Moore said that after dark is the best time experience the Christmas decorations.

The guided-educational walks target over 55s, providing them with after-dark safety tips, an opportunity to socialise with other older residents and stay fit and active.

According to a study from the London School of Economics, brisk walking is better than any other form of exercise when it comes to battling obesity.

Elizabeth Bay resident Robbie Granath and her friends enjoyed last year’s tour so much, they’re encouraging other seniors to join the fun this year.

“Walking in a group is the perfect way to see Sydney’s spectacular Christmas lights, it’s such fun!” said Robin.

“The guides are so knowledgeable and it’s really just a great way to meet new people.”

“Staying active is really important as you get older, and the After Dinner Walking Group is a great way to keep moving while enjoying Sydney’s Christmas spirit in a welcoming environment.”

The concept was inspired by the OPEN Sydney night-time economy strategy and Action Plan 2013-2030, to promote Sydney as a safe place to explore at night.
