Sprit of the Lore, a vibrant mix of Indigenous theatre, music and dance will make its world premiere in Brisbane this September.
Inspired by the themes of Lord of the Flies, Spirit of the Lore is a brand new work presented by the Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC) and the Aboriginal Centre for the Performing Arts (ACPA) with design by Jacqueline Schofield.
“I really enjoy collaborating with ACPA; I first worked with the company in 2012 so I am thrilled they have invited me back this year to work on Sprit of the Lore,” says Ms Schofield.
“This brand new work focuses in on a group of 12 men and women who find themselves in a foreign space; a place that promotes the intersection of conflicting world views, personal values and learnt rules of behaviour. “Essentially, Spirit of the Lore is about twelve very different individuals sharing one common goal; survival”, she says.
ACPA has been delivering training for emerging Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander performing artists since it was initially established in 1998 by the Queensland State Government and its original founder, Michael Leslie. The centre has since grown to become Australia’s national centre of excellence in training for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists across the disciplines of music, acting and dance.
This brand new, dramatic production will be staged from 11 to 19 September 2013. For bookings, go to www.qpac.com.au or phone 136 246.
