Where could you go to hear an extravaganza of music from Scotland, Ireland, Wales and the broader Celtic nations? There’s something about Celtic music – and with each passing year, the QPO brand of Celtic magic continues to receive more hearty unison chants of ‘we want more’ than ever.
Once again, here’s your chance to be adventurous and wear your kilt or trews! Another fabulous serving of the very best treasures from one of the world’s richest ethnic music heritages hits the floorboards of QPAC in 2017. Come with your face painted and hoist your Celtic flags, and join with us in this ever-popular Pops favourite. Featuring Thistle Highland Dancers and dancers from the Watkins Academy of Irish Dance, the orchestra will also be joined by the iconic Celtic rock ensemble Murphy’s Pigs, who will warm the cockles of your heart with some typically irresistible tunes.
Introducing Sarah Calderwood to the Pops audience, a singer-songwriter flautist who unites classic with contemporary folk and is well known in Celtic band circles. In 2012 her first solo album “As Night Falls” was nominated for an ARIA award and has recently recorded “You Raise me Up” and other songs by Brendan Graham, with the Australian Girls’ Choir.
