Record Number of Centenarians in Western Australia

A record number of West Australians have reached the age of 100 in 2014, with 72 centenarians added to the State Government’s register.
It is estimated there are now 350 people in Western Australia aged 100 or more. The State’s population grew by 23 per cent from 2006 to 2013, but during the same period, the State’s seniors’ population grew by 32 per cent.
To ensure the state is prepared for its ageing population, Seniors and Volunteering Minister Tony Simpson said the WA Government has implemented a range of initiatives aligning with its Seniors Strategic Planning Framework 2012-2017 – WA’s first blueprint for communities where older people matter, belong and contribute.
WA Seniors Card holders reaching 100 are issued with a commemorative gold Seniors Card.  A record 72 recipients received the card in 2014 – 17 of these in November and December.
