Keep an Eye on your Letterbox – the PM is Sending Pensioners a Letter

It seems the Abbott Government is about to send 2.4 million letters explaining changes to the May Budget which have left pensioners concerned about their payments.

Brisbane’s Courier Mail has reported the letter would advise pensioners that will not be left with less money.

“Pensioners think their payments are going to be cut tomorrow because they will have to work until they are 70,” one MP told The Courier-Mail.

“Each year, information regarding Budget measures is communicated to Centrelink recipients by the department to ensure correct information is provided through the department’s website, phone lines, shopfronts, letters and regular publications,” Human Services Minister Marise Payne said.

“Age pension recipients will be properly informed that age pension payments will continue to increase twice each year; pensioners will be better off when the carbon tax is gone because bills will be lower and the Energy Supplement will stay; they will continue to receive the Pension Supplement; and eligibility for Pensioner Concession Cards remains unchanged.”
