Free Online Cookbook Launched in Healthy Weight Week

cookbook-everyday healthyTo coincide with Healthy Weight Week, the Dietitians Association of Australia is launching a free online cookbook with celebrity cook Callum Hann and dietitian Themis Chryssidis.

A recent survey commissioned by the Dietitians Association of Australia (DAA), found 41 per cent of adults resolved to eat healthier in the New Year, while 30 per cent resolved to lose weight. Australia’s Healthy Weight Week 2014 will give every Australian a fighting chance to tick off this New Year resolution with support from Sprout duo,  Callum Hann and  Themis Chryssidis, who are hoping to inspire more Aussies to become confident cooks in the kitchen. The free online cookbook titled Everyday Healthy includes seven quick and tasty recipes.

“We need to stop focussing on superfoods, quick fixes and restrictive diet plans and instead focus on eating a variety of fresh seasonal ingredients that taste great, are readily available, affordable and of course, healthy,” Themis says.

Callum and dietitian Themis, share their top three tips for cooking up a healthy storm:

1. Cook with the seasons. When fruits and vegetables are in season, they are at their taste and nutrition peak – and they’re cheaper.
2. Think vegetables. Cook meals which invite lots of different vegetables to the plate such as Asian or Mexican dishes and make salads interesting by including a range of flavours, colours and textures such as grains, nuts, seeds and even fruits.
3. Plan and prepare. Always have kitchen staples on hand, such as rice, noodles, dried herbs and spices, canned tomatoes and stock. This will make cooking at the end of the day a lot easier and make sure you stay away from the drive through on the way home.
